Back for the summer season, Cocoon Recordings proudly presents the next chapter in its iconic compilation series. With its 22nd edition, Cocoon Compilation V once again bridges the past and the future, showcasing the essence of electronic music’s constant evolution. True to the label’s spirit, this meticulously curated collection offers a diverse, emotional, and visionary proposal that flows between brilliant currents, pulsating machinery, and moments of absolute liberation.

Delenz & Zeitstill set the tone with “Place To Be,” a smooth, warm opener that invites the listener into a meditative microcosm. What begins as dreamy minimalism gradually unfolds into a shimmering depth. A sublime invitation to lose oneself in sound. Superpitcher pulls us deeper into the fog with “Dream B,” an ethereal and cinematic soundscape that floats between melancholy and magic. Its stretched textures and hypnotic rhythm form a gentle passage into inner space.

The energy intensifies with Patrice Bäumel’s “Nat,” a sophisticated piece that builds tension with a subtle pulse and haunting atmospheres. Sound waves that breathe, evolve, and lead to movement with discreet firmness. Sawlin shifts gears with “Der Jasager,” a technoid beast of deep bass, modulated percussion, raw textures, and eerie nuances. Raw, physical, and relentless.

The luminous contrast arrives with DC Salas and his track “Escapism.” Psychedelic, synth-laden, and effortlessly groovy, it conveys the playful side of the electronic narrative. Its vibrant energy, bright choruses, and an irresistible nineties trance vibe make it a journey back to a golden era. With Tal Fussman’s “Eyes,” we enter euphoric territory. This anthem is a dialogue between piano and strings, soaring over crisp grooves and intertwining emotion and dynamism with great skill.

In the second half of the journey, the legendary Ken Ishii teams up with Yuada to deliver “Split Second,” a bold, wild, and crazy techno excursion, full of mechanical grace and Japanese precision. A tribute to organized chaos. Then comes Marcel Fengler’s “Aura”: powerful and deep, it pushes air like an engine through tunnels of tension and light. Its fusion of rhythm and emotion is a masterclass in functional elegance and states of mind.

Impérieux gives us “Kala,” a track as twisted as it is beautiful. Its hypnotic detuned melodies and distorted harmonics generate a fascinating unease, while unconventional rhythms envelop the entire piece in an aura of mystery. It crunches and writhes towards transcendence, underscored by primitive flute sounds. A fractured lullaby for the dancefloor. Joe Metzenmacher injects abandon and attitude with “Da Freak.” Distorted synths collide with a funky bassline, sharp guitars, and deranged bleep effects, bringing the danceable chaos of old-school funk into a futuristic setting.

Joseph Capriati debuts on Cocoon with “Cosmopop” and surprises with an unexpected stylistic turn. Capriati explores a more melodic and emotional sound. Subtle harmonies intertwine with a warm and enveloping groove. It is a bold and personal statement, showcasing a new facet of an artist who continues to evolve beyond expectations. To close, Matthias Schildger offers “Distorter,” a raw and emotional piece that leaves room to breathe while keeping the mind moving. It starts with beautiful pads, and then distorted kick drums drop, yet the track retains a particular tenderness, like the feeling of sitting in a quiet, untouched corner of nature, surrounded by the world’s beauty. A grand finale for a compilation that refuses to conform.
