In late summer 1994, John Mackaay and Michel Rehatta, under the name Upadhmanyia, invited Leo Verhoef (LFU) to collaborate on a track. They then met several more times at an electricity plant converted into a studio in IJsselstein, Netherlands. “Hasiya” was quickly born and was already in stores by early November 1994. John and Leo drove to the club house iT in Amsterdam, where they delivered the track to DJ Marcello, turning it into a hit within iT!
The track was quickly embraced by DJs worldwide, with Richie Hawtin using it in a live set in Denver on November 19 of the same year, a recording of which can be heard on SoundCloud (Hasiya appears mixed around the 43:00 mark). The track was also a huge success on dancefloors in England and Spain.
At the end of 1994, “Hasiya” appeared on a CNR Music EP titled “Welcome To The Club,” alongside four other hits from producers like Pete Lazonby, The Shaker, and Drum Club. A double CD with the same name followed in early 1995, released in Belgium, where “Hasiya” shared space with artists like Robert Miles, Digital Express, Aura, Natural Born Grooves, and other hits of the era.
In early 1995, Arcade released “House Party ’95 the Kinky Klubmixx,” mixed by Koen Groeneveld and Addy van der Zwan. The same CD was also released in Scandinavia under the name “House Party ’95 (5).” “Hasiya” thrived among the most popular house tracks of the time. The record stayed on the Dance Music Mega Top 30 for three weeks, reaching number 22 during the end-of-1994 holidays.
For 31 years, “Hasiya” was only available on vinyl, CD, cassette, or YouTube. As of November 21, 2025, it will resurface from the underground into the world of digital downloads and streaming. The 2025 remaster, along with five new mixes, will be widely available, including a limited vinyl edition of 350 copies. The 30 test pressing copies were already enthusiastically received by various DJs and gained immediate support from Eris Drew and Octo Octa during ADE.
Because “Hasiya” was created in 1994, the only available material for remixing was the original DAT tape, which fortunately was still stored in an old box in a dusty attic. Most of the sounds for the new versions were recreated and re-recorded.
Rehatta’s Reanimated Mix:
This remix—created by one of Upadhmanyia's two founders—combines powerful, percussive beats with an exciting progressive break filled with ascending and dizzying strings. This element returns shortly after to reignite the energy. An accessible remix for dancefloors worldwide.
LFU 2025 Version:
This direct and raw techno version with an acid touch is ready to make dancefloors explode. LFU’s update of the 1994 original, created with Michel and John, will undoubtedly remain a true head shaker.
John Consemulder Metaphysical Mix:
With a pumping groove and a funky bassline as an introduction, John Consemulder's remix connects immediately. A refined and elegant reinterpretation of the original, with sounds as mysterious and exciting as lava flowing in the "Gruta das Torres"—a cave in the Azores—where this tech-trance remix was created.
Davje Remix:
Davje's version begins with the classic late-90s club and hard-trance bassline. It slowly pulls you into a trance journey where beat changes try to disorient you. His creative interpretation of "Hasiya's" main theme with a Hammond organ is surprising, and towards the end of the remix, it transports you back to the hippie era.
Bojcot Remix:
Junglist Bojcot creates an exciting, detailed, and mathematical remix, with a beat that moves between jungle and half-tempo. He takes sounds from LFU’s 2025 version, builds a bassline that sounds like a disturbed bumblebee, and adds an unexpected string section. Massive!
