Trentemøller’s debut album on Poker Flat, *"The Last Resort"*, is a beautifully crafted, astonishing masterpiece that will leave you breathless.

The 13 instrumental tracks together form a wordless musical narrative, almost like a film soundtrack. It succeeds in capturing a wide range of emotions through subtle melodic miniatures, dreamy atmospheres, dusty grooves, deep dub themes, and dynamic rhythmic excursions. A shifting kaleidoscope of colors and moods, *"The Last Resort"* contains, without doubt, Trentemøller’s finest work to date.

Although it is definitely an electronic album, it also incorporates live drums, some guitars and other acoustic instruments such as celesta, glockenspiel, melodica and even DJ *scratching* to create a more organic feel. "Something I couldn't achieve just with electronics", the producer explains.

Most of the tracks were recorded over the last year, often in the moments in between sessions for his 12-inch releases and remixes. "Making these tracks was like having a holiday," says Trentemøller, "moments to completely switch off and just let the music flow."

It may come as a surprise that on *"The Last Resort"*, Trentemøller steps away from the dance floor and instead delivers an introspective album, ideal for listening at home, in the car or on an iPod.

But ever since his first release on Audiomatique (*"Physical Fraction"* in January 2005) we knew that this young producer from Copenhagen was capable of fusing great melodies and chord progressions with subtle yet energetic grooves. His excellent remixes for Yoshimoto (*"Du What U Do"*, OM, 2004), Röyksopp (*"What Else Is There"*, 2005), and Pet Shop Boys (*"Sodom"*, Parlophone, 2006) show yet another facet of this multi-talented artist, while his early releases on Audiomatique (*"Physical Fraction"*) and Poker Flat (*"Polar Shift"*) quickly brought him dance floor fame.

However, as he himself puts it, he doesn't see himself as somebody who only produces *dance-tech* music. "I've always made all sorts of music. In the studio, I never think about what genre it is or what audience it is aimed at, I just make the music I feel like."

What emerged from the recording sessions for *"The Last Resort"* was a very personal album: "It reflects my life, my thoughts, my needs, my insecurities, my yearnings." And it was a challenge, he adds, "to express these feelings and moods without words, just with music."

For that reason he decided not to include the two vocal tracks he recorded during the sessions for *"The Last Resort"* on the final album. *"Always Something Better"* (featuring Richard Davis and the first single from the album) and *"Moan"* (with Copenhagen singer Ane Trolle) are presented on a second disk, released solely as a limited edition bonus CD.

Trentemøller: "When I heard the final sequence of tracks, it felt like I was listening to the soundtrack for a movie unfolding before my eyes. It was important for me that the music told the story. The vocal tracks would perhaps have disturbed the whole feeling of the soundscape."
