Tee Mango - EP#3 [Aus Music]

Tom Mangan has enjoyed so much production success of late that he's stepped away from the hugely successful Millionhands T-shirt studio he founded a few years back. Time will tell if it was a wise choice, but there's no denying that he's on a serious hot streak creatively right now. He begins his latest musical venture on Aus Music by cunningly blending elements that sound like JJ Cale-style blues with metronomic, snare-heavy house drums, and a wonderful burbling synth bassline ("Time Ain't Nothing"). He then explores a more jazz-broken beat influenced sound on the rhythmic sweetness of "My Mind." Arguably best of all, though, is the epic B-side, "Music Got Me High," where glistening, glassy-eyed piano stabs, shimmering synth riffs, and soulful vocal samples ride a classic house rhythm.
