The masterful supergroup Phreek, led by Patrick Adams, sees three of their most coveted works —two of which have never before been officially released on 12-inch format— reissued and remastered by South Street Disco, a label that has quickly established itself as a benchmark in high-demand reissues.

A true classic, “Weekend” was born in 1978, written by Leroy Burgess and James Calloway, and produced by Patrick Adams alongside Burgess. Both lead an exceptional cast in this essential anthem of Paradise Garage and one of Larry Levan's favorites. Perfectly representing the sound of the late seventies, when synthesizers began to take center stage, the track combines cosmic-sounding keyboards, lush string arrangements, and energetic funk guitars, all backed by precise percussion, hard-hitting bass lines, and Christie Shire's lead vocals, fully capturing the spirit of disco music. Famously reimagined as a house anthem a decade later by Todd Terry, “Weekend” remains a timeless piece of authentic celestial magic.

With a similar approach, “Everybody Loves A Good Thing” once again embarks on a journey through the cosmos. The vibrant synthesizers evoke the sound of Universal Robot Band, while Leroy Burgess's imposing vocal performance, alongside Venus Dodson, known for “Shining Star,” elevates the track to another level. It is as inspiring as it is irresistible, crowned by a memorable piano breakdown that maintains the tension until the very last moment.

Flipping the record, an entire side is dedicated to the greatness of “I’m a Big Freak [RU1*2]”. This is a hypnotic exercise in fast-paced disco, with sensual moans, otherworldly keyboards charged with attitude, and a deep bass that seems to never stop.
