Scottish techno artist Mha Iri returns to Adam Beyer’s Drumcode with her explosive, futuristic three-track EP, ‘Neon Storm’. A veteran warrior for the label, Mha Iri boasts standout, best-selling tracks on DC’s Elevate compilation, A-Sides Vol. 12 (‘Bell’), her debut EP The Unexpected, and 2024’s Bombay EP. A YOZE remix of ‘Bell’ also featured on Elevate Vol. II.

Now, Neon Storm kicks off another massive year for the Edinburgh artist, following early 2025 shows at fabric and Gashouder for New Year's Awakenings, and an incredible 2024: an Australian tour including Carl Cox’s Eat The Beat festival alongside Lilly Palmer and Chris Liebing; her debut on [PIAS] Électronique with support from Mixmag, Clash, DJ Mag, and Jaguar/BBC Dance; plus releases on Filth on Acid and TRICK.

‘Neon Storm’, the EP’s title track, juxtaposes powerful, raw energy techno beats with futuristic dystopian elements: saturated growls, stabs, doppler crescendos, and an unsettling robotic female vocal riff. A mysterious operatic chorus surprisingly blends perfectly with this soundscape, as the dark sounds grow increasingly ominous.

‘Moving Machines’ maintains the energy with galloping techno, metallic stabs, and a cut-up, 90s-vibe melody, while an ascending doppler siren – felt in your teeth – gives way to a gigantic breakdown… another direct shot of dynamite for the floor.

‘No Return’ is equally potent: an unstoppable avalanche of hard-hitting beats, growling bass, and armies of vibrant hi-hats that herald spatial effects and an alien melodic voice, accompanied by an almost Scottish-tinged melody.

Neon Storm is an accurate description of this colorful yet chaotic set of tracks, which have had a strong impact on my sets during the last few months of touring. “I wanted to create an EP that represented my energy, but also took inspiration from Drumcode’s signature groove, and it's been incredible to see how well they work in Adam’s prime-time sets.”
