Measure Divide presents their first full EP for Mutual Rytm X with their new release, Everything Is Porridge.

Born in Karachi and now based in Toronto, Measure Divide has revitalized the local techno scene over the last decade through his FORMAT parties. In that time, he’s shunned mainstream techno, opting instead for innovative sounds on labels like Clergy and Mutual Rytm, and performing at iconic clubs like Berghain, K41, and Tresor. Beyond the underground circuit, he has years of experience in sound design and composing for animation and film, and it’s that facet he channels here to bring to life a vibrant and playful sound in an unexpected, colorful turn from the more serious tones he often explores, marking his first full EP on SHDW’s Mutual Rytm X sub-label.

A record for adventurous DJs and listeners looking for bold, mischievous, and innovative sounds, the EP’s title—inspired by an inside joke about calling anything edible “porridge”—reflects the chaotic and unpredictable state of the world: a mushy blend of uncertainty. That same unpredictability is mirrored in the tracks, which combine techno, breaks, modular experimentation, and much more.

The title track, Everything Is Porridge, is an original and vibrant piece that kicks off with a restless blend of unusual percussive sounds and sparkling synths over pounding kicks. It's tense, twisted, and sounds like nothing else. Wormy Wonderland is another brilliantly eccentric cut, featuring strange noises and rough textures over a danceable techno foundation, while Eeeeeermmmm slows the tempo with menacing hums and caustic, broken beats. The digital bonus tracks Shrew Cascade and Clumsy Clatter continue to defy techno molds with aquatic effects, twisted synth lines, and inventive rhythmic patterns.
