The unstoppable force that is MACEO PLEX launches his new label ELLUM AUDIO with the flawless High & Sexy EP, two criminally seductive house cuts, loaded with shadowy soul, melancholic funk, and made for each other. Loved and supported by the likes of Jamie Jones, Seth Troxler, Sasha, MANDY, Ewan Pearson, Lee Burridge, Nic Fanciulli, Tiefschwarz, Clive Henry, Shaun Reeves, among many others, all signs point to 2011 showing no signs of slowing down for the artist of the moment, Maceo Plex.
With an acclaimed album earlier in the year and a string of successful releases under his belt, Maceo has scaled exponentially in a relatively short time. Many would be content with releasing on prestigious labels such as Crosstown Rebels, Visionquest or Hot Creations, and remixing artists like Azari & III or DJ T. But Maceo goes one step further with a new project that will undoubtedly consolidate his place within the new house elite.
Determined to follow in the footsteps of his Crosstown Rebels label mates, Maceo is launching his own label to further represent his characteristic sound of dark and sensual house. By naming the label ELLUM, Maceo pays homage to Deep Ellum, an underground arts district in Dallas that profoundly influenced his early career. Deep Ellum was a cultural hub that housed legendary clubs and warehouses where, in the 90s, parties were held with techno and house icons, bringing these scenes to the doorstep of a young Eric Estornel, aka Maceo Plex.
The High & Sexy EP, the label’s first release, is as sexy and groovy as the rest of his catalog, and has been eloquently described by his friend and fellow Miami exile, Danny Daze, as New Wave House. The A-side, Stay High Baby, is undoubtedly one of Maceo’s most sensual tracks to date. With its distinctive emotional charge, funk guitars, and layers of penetrating vocals, Stay High Baby is an ode to fiery encounters on the dance floor.
On the B-side, Ain’t That Love offers a more powerful percussion, but maintains Maceo's characteristic warm, dark bass and sensual groove. Once again, his unique style evokes energy and drama through distinctive vocals and cinematic synthesizers without missing a beat. With tinges of sadness, love, and loss, Ain’t That Love will mesmerize Maceo's followers worldwide.
With a debut release of this caliber and style, Ellum Audio is already shaping up to be a home for future classics of the new wave of house.
