Welcome to the first installment of a new collaboration between The Reflex's DISCOLIDAYS imprint and Because Music in Paris, remixing gems from the Zagora catalog.
Created in 1975 by producer Daniel Vangarde (father of Daft Punk's Thomas Bangalter), the Zagora label turned out some of the most exciting disco music in France, ranging from underground cult artists such as Who's Who and Starbow, to massive international hits by Gibson Brothers, La Compagnie Créole and Black Blood. Unearthing the multitrack tapes of obscure cuts, The Reflex shifts the focus to the great session musicians involved in these recordings (including Wally Badarou, among others) and delivers stunning revisions of "Harlem Bound", a 131bpm disco jazz-funk cut (1977) and "Dancin' The Mambo", a 122bpm early Chic-esque house monster steeped in that unmistakable French sound, originally released in 1980.
Both remixes are released for the first time from the tapes, on 180g vinyl with custom artwork in a cardboard sleeve designed by Al Kent / Million Dollar Disco.
Three more releases will follow, completing the 4 x 12" vinyl & digital package distributed over several months in 2024.
