Born in Chicago and raised in Detroit, Delano Smith is one of the fundamental artists of the contemporary house scene. In 2023, he revealed he was suffering from a rare form of cancer, but as the title of this new EP suggests, he is still here and continuing to create high-quality sounds. "When I Was Young" opens with his signature smoky drum loops and a train ride-evoking hypnosis. "The Rush" is another introspective cut, this time steeped in eerie pads and wet snaps and claps that lubricate the groove, while "Rewired" closes with a late-night delicacy and evocative minimalism.
