A Deeper Life, Chaos In The CBD’s debut album, over 10 years in the making, is steeped in nostalgia for the duo’s youth, marked by the nature, magical coastlines, and lush rainforests of New Zealand. “The title refers to our childhood, which was idyllic,” says Ben. “It was just sun, sand, sea, waterfalls, birds, and fish…”. That paradisiacal setting is also reflected on the album cover: a painting by a childhood friend depicting the beach where they grew up in Devonport.

A Deeper Life channels that deep love for house music and a wide variety of influences — from Brazilian music and R&B to ambient, Italo, deep house, and downtempo pop — transforming them into a serene, cohesive work executed with the duo’s characteristic elegance. The result is an international dance sound that feels unmistakably Chaos In The CBD, flowing naturally between a beach party, the club, and the after-hours.

The album features collaborations with several American legends, fusing their voices with the British underground sensibility. Josh Milan, a member of house pioneers Blaze, contributes his soulful vocals over the bossa nova rhythms of ‘I Wanna Tell Somebody’, a futuristic anthem between jazz and the dance floor. Underappreciated Chicago house hero and Larry Heard collaborator Lee Pearson Jr. takes things to deeper realms over the broken beat of ‘More Time’. And on ‘Maintaining My Peace’, the brothers unite veteran house singer-songwriter Stephanie Cooke with British grime MC Novelist, bringing to life an elegant London reinterpretation of Los Angeles hip-hop and g-funk.

Also featured on the album are New Zealand jazz artist Nathan Haines, regular collaborator Isaac Asaeili, and more special guests.
