Belpaese - Belpaese 01 [Belpaese Edits]

Belpaese Edits is a new series of reworks with a Balearic, cosmic mindset, shrouded in mystery. We know it's of Italian origin (the label makes that clear), but very little else. In many ways, it doesn't matter; whoever is behind it, this debut EP is excellent. It opens with the carnival-ready, chant-heavy, South American-style jazz-funk/disco fusion of "Sentimento", before taking a more relaxed and chunky direction via "Ancora Piaccio", a tasty rework of a lesser-known Italian disco-era record. On the B-side, "Di Chi Sei" sounds like it was made by Italy's answer to Sade (and yes, it made us want to walk barefoot on a beach hand-in-hand with a loved one), while "Para Para" is a slice of reggae-influenced, slow-motion Italian disco-exotica.
