Youandewan & Velvet Velour - The Brane 002 [The Brane]

Six years after Youandewan christened the Brane label with a now impossible to find EP, the imprint finally returns to record stores. This time it's a split affair, with his tracks on the A-side and two from Velvet Velour on the flip. Youandewan first treats us to 'Cheap Lust,' a charming fusion of ultra-deep and dreamy pads, distorted bass, snappy house percussion and tech-tinged sounds, before opting for a cheekier, wilder approach on the breakbeat-driven, garage-influenced 'On A Hired Sofa.' Those garage influences come to the fore on Velvet Velour's 'OK': think shifting, laid-back 4/4 percussion, mutant UKG bass and scattered melodic motifs. Meanwhile, 'I Need Juice' is a sticky fusion of UKG and tech-house.
