Yan Cook - LTD BLK 30 [Planet Rhythm]

The Dutch collective Planet Rhythm continues to fulfill its stated mission of exploring the limits of dance music and 'designing the future,' with releases from talents whose music testifies to the idea that techno is too broad a concept to limit to a single idea. Yan Cook is one such talent in their eyes; his latest work for PR's limited black label series features four tracks of laconic, calculating, and dark techno that move with a cold stride, like a one-way space probe feeling its way through a planetary ring of ice. Cook's sci-fi theme is inhospitable, with his interpretation of the presence of 'Antimatter' in the universe, which resembles a kind of fearsome metallic object grinding in an echo chamber; and 'Exomoon', which evokes the image of said celestial anomaly through icy and desolate pads, along with reverberating screams and sharp percussion machines. A chilling vision of an exotic future of space travel, perhaps one in which we have been completely stripped of our humanity.
