Back in stock by popular demand, the 19th installment of our iconic Brazil 45’s series highlights Wilson das Neves’ brilliant rendition of Average White Band’s classic Pick Up The Pieces, alongside a perennial Mr Bongo Brazilian funk favourite: Tanga by Som Três.

Wilson das Neves was a legendary Brazilian percussionist, primarily known for his involvement in Os Ipanemas. On the A-side of this 7”, we find his version of Pick Up The Pieces, recorded with his band, where he transforms the track into an explosive samba-funk, laden with percussion and horns. This gem was originally released on his LP Som Quente É O Das Neves in 1969.

On the B-side, an undisputed Brazilian funk classic on Mr Bongo. Crushing drums, intense vocals, and piano overflowing with energy in just over two minutes. Som Três was a trio led by the prolific pianist, arranger, and producer César Camargo Mariano. Tanga originally appeared on the LP Um É Pouco, Dois É Bom, Este Som Três É Demais, released by Odeon Brazil in 1970.

Both Brazilian gems have never before been released on 7” format.
