Aus Music founder Will Saul collaborates with Fink and James Alexander Bright on the final EP of the AUS200 series.
Following releases from artists like Quantic, Dam Swindle, K-Lone and Cinithe, Will Saul closes the celebration of his label's 200th release with a track alongside his old friend Fink and another with James Alexander Bright, an artist he discovered and signed to !K7 during his decade working as an A&R for the label.
Saul's music has been the backbone of the label from day one. His dancefloor-focused EPs and more immersive, expansive albums have helped define the melodically rich fusion of bass and house. Equally important, his A&R work has allowed the label to evolve over the past two decades, remaining relevant to the new generation and providing a platform where contemporary talent shines.
For this release, he is joined by his old friend Fink, singer, songwriter, guitarist, and producer, who under the alias Sideshow was behind Aus' first release in 2006. Since then, they have maintained a fruitful working relationship that is now bearing musical fruit again. Their track 'Slo-mo Life' is six sublime minutes of deep downtempo with dub undertones. It's driven by a hypnotic bassline, delicate melodies, and introspective chords accompanied by subtle vocal loops that create a state of pure well-being. Then, Fink delivers a remix as Sideshow, built on ethereal jungle breaks, with evocative synths blurred like brushstrokes and fading into infinite reverberations until reaching an angelic ambient sound.
British artist James Alexander Bright has built a colorful catalog of albums and EPs that serve as the soundtrack for hazy daydreams, quiet afternoons in the park, or dance journeys. He has collaborated, among others, with Tom Findlay of Groove Armada and Girls Of The Internet, and always brings an endearing, lo-fi, and captivating sensibility.
'Blue' has a raw, live sound, with explosive beats and broken kick drum patterns. Bright's piercing voice speaks of emotional pain while bright chords add intensity. His remix transforms the track into a hazy, cinematic breakbeat soul piece, giving more space for his voice to stand out, while Joris Feiertag's exquisite live drumming keeps the energy moving.
