Daniel Vangarde is the father of Thomas Bangalter, a member of Daft Punk, and during the 70s and 80s, he was a highly successful musician, writing and producing for projects like Gibson Brothers and Ottawan on his Zagora label. He also worked solo under the name Who’s Who and, in 1979, produced a cosmic euro disco record that eventually became a true cult classic.
Here, two tracks from that release are reinterpreted by The Reflex directly from the original tapes.
For ‘Hypnodance’, he adds mid-tempo dub drums while retaining its oriental-inspired melodic charm and refined sense of sophistication.
In his version of ‘Palace Palace’, the approach is funkier and more dynamic, with light and bouncy drums, flexible basslines, and an atmosphere enveloped in cosmic arpeggios.
