Reissue alert! Whirlpool Productions’ *Fly Hi/Gimme* first appeared in 1993 on the short-lived 5th&Madison imprint. The fascination a young Justus Köhncke had for the bubbly sounds, strict rhythms and fresh grooves of New York house music inspired the idea of joining in the song with a production of his own. Add his co-producer Fred Heimermann, the vibrant DJ and brilliant music journalist Hans Nieswandt, a visitor from San Francisco called Eric D. Clark, singer Heather Sachs and Mel Tormé samples to this dazzling picture, and you’ll understand why it sounds the way it sounds: swinging house through the lenses of a colourful cast or how some Germans thought New Jersey’s Zanzibar would sound. *Fly Hi* embodies the sophisticated, deep and soulful approach while *Gimme* satisfies a more histrionic one. Favoured and supported by DJs like Tony Humphries back in the day, officially released by Snap’s Logic Records and never out of Move D’s record bag, it is reissued in full glory for the first time on Running Back.
