"Strut Records was there first, long before DFA recorded The Rapture's debut on Sub Pop. 'Disco Not Disco' predated the punk funk revolution by two years." - Resident Advisor.

Strut presents a new special vinyl edition of the influential first volume of 'Disco Not Disco', compiled by Dave Lee and Sean P.

'Disco Not Disco' was a perfectly timed compilation in 2000. Released at a time when interest in the myths, history, and playlists of original New York clubs like Paradise Garage and The Loft was at its peak, the album focused on the outer reaches of alternative disco, championed by Levan and Mancuso, bringing together unexpected dancefloor anthems from rock acts like Yoko Ono and Ian Dury, rarities from independent labels like BC and Splash, and some selected eccentricities from the unique mind of avant-garde hero Arthur Russell. It was essentially a celebration of New York's sonic melting pot in the early 80s, an era when punk had fizzled out and disco had become commercial and saccharine; instead, the post-punk movement spawned brilliant oddities that broke established rules. Since its release, the compilation's title has become synonymous with an entire musical genre and remains an emblematic collection of its time. This new edition is a welcome return for an essential celebration of disco's awkward cousins. The album includes full artwork and is pressed on three LPs.
