Poker Flat Recordings – without question one of the most essential and influential labels of the past few decades – presents something a little bit different... and very, very special.

Classic Jams reaches back to the roots, rescuing lost and forgotten gems – the music that originally inspired and fuelled a whole generation of electronic producers and dancers, Steve Bug included.

It’s a journey through deep, jacking and acid house, as well as raw expressions of techno that had a profound impact on Poker Flat’s ongoing catalogue, from the late 80s to today.

Most of these tracks have been out of vinyl circulation for years and fetch hefty prices on the second-hand market. Likewise, some have never before been available digitally. Selected and compiled by label boss Steve Bug, these tracks are bona fide secret weapons for open-minded DJs – as well as a valuable document of house’s enduring legacy for home listeners.

The warehouse anthem Aquarius, Jam To It Again, originally released on City Limits in 1990, still sounds like a shot of adrenalin straight to the system. Similarly, Magic Noir’s dark-but-stunning Essence is sure to ignite dance floors all over again just as it did back in the day. Reaching even further back, Classic Jams also shines a light on Larry Heard’s sublime Never No More Lonely under his Fingers Inc alias, as well as Myoshi-Morris’ 1988 deep house bomb Musiq, which here appears in a brand new, exclusive Steve Bug edit.

Other highlights include 1992’s Swing City, all pure NYC house groove on Make You Mine. Hundreds of contemporary producers are desperately trying to replicate that moment of pure, effortless house... but none come close.

And it's not all from the USA – also included are tracks that helped kickstart a movement in Europe, such as VDT’s It’s Just a Dream featuring MC Valium – essential 1991 techno from the Germany that would soon become the birthplace of rave.

Add to that other totally lost classics from the likes of Big Baby, Springboard and Vice, and you have a compilation that works as both a testament to house’s enduring genius, and an essential tool to ignite any party.

Digital purchasers will also pick up three bonus tracks – Nick Holder’s 2001 hit Erotic Illusions, Foremost Poets’ Reasons to be Dismal, and DHS’s epic deep jam House of God ($50 mix), also available on Poker Flat 12”s.
