Dutch label Mord presents the latest LP from UFO95, the French DJ and producer whose name suggests he might know something about why vinyl records and flying saucers resemble each other so much. Despite the ufological theme of his alias, the musician and live A/V artist here focuses his attention on human affairs, naming the release in shorthand to describe the world many of us find ourselves in, and closing the album on a painfully pessimistic diagnostic note ("A World Of Self Concern"). Whether this alludes to pandemic narcissism or a more legitimate concern for the planet's carrying capacity remains to be seen—however, the grimness of this record is palpable enough that, as a techno LP, it drags us through endless sonic funnels, conveyor belts, pulleys, and gears of sound, resulting in a relentlessly sadistic experience.
