Todd Terry presents Sound Design - Bounce To The Beat (Chris Stussy / Dan Shake Remixes) [Hard Times]

The combination of Todd Terry and Hard Times is synonymous in the world of house music. The legendary DJ and producer, a true pioneer of the genre, was one of the first American artists to play at the intimate and vibrant gatherings in the north of the UK in the early 90s. Forever united by A Night In The Life, the live mix released in 1995 that set a new standard for mix tapes, this collaboration has continually blossomed, forging a bond that remains strong over 30 years later.

1995 was also the year Todd Terry first made his mark on the label with the iconic club hit Bounce To The Beat. Following his chart success with Can You Party in ‘88, the legendary The Unreleased Project series which spawned club hits like Jumpin’, and just months before he topped the charts with his remix of Everything But The Girl’s Missing, label boss Steve Raine seized the perfect moment to bring his friend to Hard Times Records with the signing of Bounce To The Beat. “I still remember pressing play, hearing those beats for the first time, and thinking we had a big record on our hands,” says Raine. “It was our second release on the label, but it would be the track that put us firmly at the forefront of the scene, both here in the UK and globally.”

Now, Hard Times and Todd Terry revive Bounce To The Beat with a reinterpretation for 2024, featuring two powerful remixes from two of house music's most exciting rising stars, which promise to dominate dancefloors this summer and beyond.

Dutch producer and Up The Stuss label boss, Chris Stussy, takes the track on a 90s-inspired journey, blending progressive strings, an energetic bassline, and the original vocal, for an exhilarating experience. “I remember discovering Todd’s productions when I started digging for that 90s sound. He is one of the artists who inspired me the most. He has proven that he masters the art of making timeless music, as his productions are still being played all over the world today. Being able to remix Bounce To The Beat is something very special to me personally, and I tried to give it a 90s touch with a modern twist,” Chris comments.

Dan Shake, from London, offers a fresh perspective with a 2Step-inspired remix, featuring an Armand-style bassline that pulsates and evolves, building to an epic climax that is sure to unleash hysteria on the dancefloor.

“Bounce To The Beat was actually one of the first records I ever bought when I started collecting house music. So to come back 15 years later and remix this iconic track for the legendary Hard Times label was surreal and a lot, lot of fun,” Dan shares.
