Some seven years after the release of his debut album, Space Shuffle, London-based producer Toby Tobias is ready to present its follow-up. Clearly a labour of love, Rising Son touches upon many of his already customary influences — the futuristic synth sounds of Detroit techno, deep house, Chicago jack, Balearica, experimental boogie, and Italo-disco, all with a primarily hardware-based approach that allows his carefully crafted melodies and dazzling chords to breathe broadly.

The result is an album that shines in every groove, with highlights oriented both towards the dance floor — such as the recent single Wonder — and more downtempo, spread across the four sides of the double vinyl. In fact, it is the more atmospheric and relaxed passages, like the brilliant Sending Signals and the eccentric IDM foray Broken Computer, that shine brightest.
