Tiptoes makes a welcome return to SlothBoogie Records this November with a fresh four-track EP, entitled 'The Akai Samurai Strikes Again'.
Glasgow’s Tiptoes has long been a respected name in the Scottish electronic music circuit, bringing his eclectic flair to the table as a DJ, fusing everything from jazz to jungle, house to techno, garage, broken beat, and many more genres. His productions are a tribute to his many influences and once again with this EP we are treated to an amalgamation of sounds. The project follows his recent acclaimed EP on Darius Syrossian’s Moxy Music entitled ‘Cuss Tomato’.
'Techno Woo' leads the way and sees Tiptoes embrace a filter house style, melding various chopped-up funk riffs, vocal chants, and basslines into a constantly evolving dynamic, whilst dusty drums carry the skipping rhythm throughout the track. Next, 'Brotherman' shines the spotlight on soulful, drenched guitar lines, brass melodies, slinking bass grooves, and hypnotic vocal lines alongside loose, oscillating percussion.
Opening the B-side is 'Mars Landings', embracing a deeper house aesthetic courtesy of hazy Rhodes chords, expansive vocal loops, and organic drums before 'Strings' rounds out the package, as the name suggests the composition is built around expansive string melodies, rugged bass stabs, and sturdy, thundering drums.
