Theo Parrish - Lights Down Low [Sound Signature]

While Theo Parrish's other recent re-issue, "I Can Take It," is largely considered a Detroit deep house classic, "Lights Down Low" – released around the same time – is nowhere near as celebrated. This has always been a little perplexing, as the 2001 cut remains one of his most enveloping and intoxicating moments. Peppered with almost inaudible spoken word samples, shimmering pianos and heavy-but-rhythmically-soft drums, the "Full Mix" is the sonic equivalent of a slow, soapy caress from a beloved lover. The more electronic version on the flip, "This One Mix," built around a dancing synthetic bass and pulsating tribal drums, is, if anything, even better, taking the beatdown to the dancefloor for an intense shaking.
