The Hacker - Laser & Smoke [Rekids]

Legendary French DJ and producer The Hacker debuts on Radio Slave's Rekids label with the 'Laser & Smoke' EP.

The two-track 'Laser & Smoke' EP harks back to The Hacker's roots in early '90s Detroit-inspired Electro and Techno. The A-side ‘Turborave’ is a sleek, bleep-laden cut with an unmistakable bassline and muted dub chords flowing over a nimble, precise rhythm. ‘Turborave’ is the sort of tune to get lost in on the dance floor in the advanced hours of the night before B-side ‘Harmonia’ sees The Hacker playing with high voltage cables. Power-loaded discharges and sparkling acids answer each other as punchy drum shots keep the groove moving, with whistles and pads occasionally adding to the mix.

A pioneering DJ and producer, The Hacker is renowned as a key figure in Electroclash in the early 2000s, thanks to his characteristic Techno and EBM-influenced sound, and for his iconic collaborations with Miss Kittin. With releases on labels like Dark Entries, Mannequin Records, and Turbo, as well as remixes for Air, Soft Cell, Dave Clarke, and Front 242, The Hacker remains a vital force in electronic music. He now adds Radio Slave's Rekids label to his extensive discography with the 'Laser & Smoke' EP.

Radio Slave’s Rekids imprint was founded in 2006 and has since spawned two successful sub-labels: Rekids Special Projects, focused on Techno, in 2017, and the more recent REK’D in 2024. With Matt Edwards solely responsible for A&R, Rekids has been crucial in developing emerging careers and has become a refuge for established acts in House and related genres, with recent releases from artists like Harry Romero, Hilit Kolet, William Kiss, Bushwacka, Mathias Kaden, Tiger Stripes, Tal Fussman, and many more.
