20,000 fans attended The Beatles' first outdoor performance in Canada at Empire Stadium in Vancouver. The lads' set lasted just under half an hour, and they forgot to play "I Want To Hold Your Hand." The show was broadcast live on local station CKWX, although the sound engineer only managed to properly balance the mix by the fourth song; in the previous ones, the vocals had too much distortion. It almost didn't happen, as the plane's pilot didn't have the correct documentation to enter Canada, and the band only arrived at the venue at 9:15 pm. Fans loved it, but critics were less impressed. "Rarely in the history of Vancouver entertainment have so many paid so much for so little," commented Jack Wasserman, replacing the Owl Prowl show.
