A leader of the Portuguese wave in techno, co-founder of Hayes Collective and with acclaimed releases on Klockworks, Blueprint and Soma, Temudo takes the reins to return club music to its days of boldness and risk-taking. A more-than-promising talent turned modern reference, Temudo upholds his reputation with a release that displays depth in its diverse sound universes and a profound understanding of his music's history. For his seventh release, Temudo's Meteora is the logical next step in the direction of the club: a perfect point between dancefloor efficiency and lasting aesthetic.
Combining the intrigue of mental soundscapes with the solidity of an imposing beat, Meteora shows itself to be contained, expressing its effect through moderation. The main track, occupying the A1 of the EP, is precisely that: a force of interwoven sound design and powerful microtransitions. Some believe that the best techno records are capable of expressing emotion and attitude despite their dissonant and mechanized nature; if that is the case, then Temudo has mastered the art. "When I Grow Up," on the other hand, brings the focus back to the body. What sounds like distorted tape modulation over a percussion line makes this track an addictive and delirious journey from start to finish, fitting with the previous track while shifting towards other priorities.
Demonstrating its versatility, "Vrthng" at first seems reminiscent of the minimalist Berlin style with a faster beat, but quickly progresses into something intensely euphoric. With experience and restraint, an unconventional approach can truly pay off, and the added excitement in "Vrthng" certainly marks a turning point in the EP. This mentality is clearly reflected in the project's conclusion: "It’s Always Past." A surprising use of harmony and narrative, this final chapter ends with Temudo confidently sealing his style. The track is enveloped in the mystery of its chords, closing Meteora with a question mark that leaves us in anticipation of what Temudo will dare to do next.
