Sylvester - I Need You (Ron Hardy Edit) [Fantasy]

While far from his most celebrated work, “I Need You” is undoubtedly one of the most potent dancefloor cuts from the sadly departed San Francisco disco star Sylvester. This is an intensely energetic, signature Sylvester take on a gospel song, turning it into an explosive, euphoric, and unashamedly sensual anthem. This reissue features the original 12” version produced by Harvey Fuqua (1980), along with what appears to be an unreleased re-edit by Chicago house pioneer Ron Hardy. His version is rhythmically more solid and with subtle percussion, alternating full vocal and instrumental sections (often laden with effects) with extended drum passages. A great reinterpretation of a disco classic that should be in every respectable collection.
