Subjol - Reflections EP [SlothBoogie]

We welcome Subjoi to the team this September with his four-track ‘Reflections’ EP.

Originally hailing from Warsaw, Poland, and now residing in Adelaide, Australia, Subjoi has been gaining consistent traction on the House scene over the last five years, amassing releases on labels such as clipp.art, Shall Not Fade’s Lost Palms, Lobster Theremin’s Distant Hawaii and 13th Hour, amongst others. Here we see him join the SlothBoogie Records outfit with some soul-drenched, sun-kissed house cuts.

Leading the EP is ‘At A Time’, where Subjoi presents an amalgamation of disco strings, brass samples and vocals over a swinging drum beat, which dynamically evolves with filter sweeps and a looped feel throughout. ‘Gone’ follows next and employs more classic house tropes thanks to an animated piano line, beefy drums and catchy vocal chops.

Opening the B-side is ‘What You Do’, switching the aesthetic to 2-step infused rhythms alongside airy stab sequences, bubbling synth melodies and R&B style processed vocal lines. ‘Sapporo Nights’ rounds off the EP on a deeper tip, travelling through hazy string lines, warm chimes, heavy doses of sub-bass and stripped-back, pacey drums.
