Soul Of Hex - Mystic EP [Delusions Of Grandeur]

Brothers Gerardo and Emanuel Cedillo, aka Soul of Hex, are causing quite a stir right now. Born and raised in Mexico’s notorious border city, Tijuana, the duo has been deeply immersed in the underground house and techno scene: DJing, throwing events, performing lives with their trusty Elektron gear, and dropping floor anthems on labels like Quintessentials, Secret Crunch, CVMR and Dirt Crew, as well as running their own imprint, Vicario. Most recently, they not only opened a new venue, Marko Disko, in Tijuana, but also launched a new alias, Mano De Fuego, with a release slated for April on none other than Underground Resistance.

On the Mystic EP we find some of that UR electro inspiration fused with late 80s classic US vocal house, raw disco grooves and Italo thrust. Love Is In Control features the vocals of Steve Lucas from Fusion Groove Orchestra/If Only I Could, with More Lotion and Temporal Wangan appearing on other pieces. In theory, this could sound like a mash-up of borrowed ideas, but in the hands of Soul of Hex, authenticity shines through, delivering a brilliant 4-track EP that will captivate electronic music fans and DJs of all stripes. Once again, SOH delivers the goods.
