Sinnamon - I Need Your Now [JIVE]

Sinnamon’s 1983 New York boogie hit ‘I Need You Now’ gets an official remaster and reissue treatment, complete with the ‘Fierce Reprise’ dub mix along with the acapella, providing essential sampling material.

Bridging the old with the new, ‘I Need You Now’ is steeped in sleek funk bass and colourful chords, but also embraces a host of synth sounds, from electro sequencers to synth-based strings, giving it that post-disco and early 80s boogie feel. Bernard Fowler, famed for Peech Boys, guests on vocals, bringing a deep R&B tone, complimented by Sinnamon’s powerful female vocal performance, adding her signature feminine touch to the track.

First up on the B-side, the six-minute ‘Fierce Reprise’ mix. Backwards plates that retract into the skull, tape delayed vocals, and spacial synth echoes swirl, as elements overlap and double up for maximum weight proto house vibes.

Lastly, a much-loved and much-used acapella version that has been sampled by a host of early house, hardcore, and garage producers from 808 State and Criminal House to Ray Keith and Paul Johnson.

An essential item for anyone with a penchant for the flavour of early 80s boogie.
