From the first inklings of Henry Laufer’s work as Shlohmo, it was clear the visual artist turned self-taught musician from Los Angeles had something special going on. With a seemingly natural command of sound design, Laufer combines deceptively simple and emotional melodies, subtle bass drops, and slow-motion swinging drums. His early productions placed him at the forefront of a new wave of emerging talent among West Coast producers.

Driven by a desire to write songs and create a release with full-range instrumentation and entirely his own vocals, Laufer quickly began recording Bad Vibes at home, his official full-length debut for the Friends of Friends label. Some might say that the songs on Bad Vibes represent the emergence of a new "rhythm and blues"—one that sways and undulates on the backbone of Henry's personal vision of modern electronica.
