Sean La'Brooy - Merchant [Scissor & Thread]

Sean La’Brooy is an Australian sound artist and composer currently residing in New York, whose work spans the genres of ambient, jazz, and electronica.

With this release, La’Brooy has teamed up with the Scissor and Thread label to release "Merchant," five pieces of dreamy, abstract, and genre-defying music, featuring his distinctive style of harmonically complex pads blended with jazz-influenced melodies and instrumental improvisations.

 As Sean explains, "the purpose of this record was to create five tracks that felt unique and distinctive from each other, while still maintaining a common thread that connected them all to the same place. All my favorite records have a certain distinctiveness in each track that brings them together to create a kind of family of works. I believe if you can achieve that cohesion, you've made a great album. With 'Merchant,' I have tried to establish a unique identity while presenting 5 tracks that feel completely different at the same time. Different concepts, genres, tempos, instrumentation, but still with a red thread to connect them all. In my mind, those similarities are defined by a particular mood or feeling, the use of playful melodies, and a reliance on acoustic rhythms throughout the album."
