Roman Flügel - Geht’s Noch? 21 Year Anniversary Part 2 [Running Back]

A 2000s classic, a sticky anthem, a future phone ringtone favourite on the playground: Roman Flügel’s omnipresent earworm Geht’s Noch? celebrates 21 years on Running Back, renewed and remixed by a selection of artists paying homage to its absurd energy.

Casually released in 2004 as part of a Cocoon Records compilation, Geht’s Noch? emerged from the depths with Sven Väth’s support, becoming an international phenomenon that equally conquered and united the dominant minimal and electroclash scenes. Some even claim it laid the groundwork for Dirty Dutch house, albeit from the other side of the border in Germany.

Known for injecting a much-needed dose of levity into the contemporary club landscape via their Live From Earth parties, DJ Gigola further turbo-charges Geht’s Noch?, adding a kick drum of seismic proportions and transforming the track’s signature bleeps into an absurd Morse code that further heightens the pleasure. Another rave culture connoisseur, Luca Lozano, offers two alternate versions: his Technocs mix charges ahead with additional cowbells, robotic vocals, and stadium claps. Meanwhile, the Gehts Garage Remix makes a cunning connection to the original track’s as-yet-unexplored UK funky potential.

Peder Mannerfelt, who navigates between innovation, functionality, humor, and seriousness much like the original author, takes Geht’s Noch? to truly impressive heights. His remix builds unexpected tension and catharsis around the persistent riff, before a collaboration with fellow studio mate Par Grindvik under the alias Aasthma transforms the club with a brilliant, anime-tinged version, full of color and fantasy.

And while the digital edition of Geht’s Noch? also includes interpretations by Audion, Dominik Eulberg, and Moguai, this vinyl edition immortalizes on wax the remix by Steve Angello vs Who’s Who, the one that helped bring Geht’s Noch? out of the underground and into the highest echelon. Twenty-one years later, Flügel’s unclassifiable hit continues its ascent. Love it or hate it, Geht’s Noch? is still hitting hard.
