Wax Digits reaches its fifth release with a solid and polished two-tracker from veteran Robert Ouimet, who passed away a couple of years ago. Before that, he cooked up these gems with his friend and production partner Dave Godin. They are released as a tribute to Ouimet's memory, and they honor him well. "Plenty" offers a raw groove and big chords, with shimmering guitars adding a touch of melancholy that contrasts with the energetic stabs. The soulful vocals provide a perfect finish. "Funky Together," on the other hand, is looser and more forceful, with dominant brass over psychedelic-tinged chords. Two quality pieces to ignite any party.
