Ricardo Villalobos - Neunachi EP [Rawax]

Following the stuttering, syncopated arrangements and unconventional excursions of ‘Aslohop’ and ‘Detrant’ in September, Ricardo returns to Rawax with two further broken beats. ‘Neunachi’ is classic off-kilter Villalobos shuffle with off-grid hits and an array of cavernous, watery noises. If you took out the reversed demonic vocals, you’re in microhouse territory. ‘Detrant’ is a much more energetic proposition, with an accelerated and denser rhythm, electro kicks contrasted with a distant chant. Each cut is stretched to the max; if ever we had time to truly immerse ourselves in Ricardo’s enduring grooves, it’s now. Nine out of ten.
