Ribe & Roll Dann deliver a dose of hard-hitting techno on Mutual Rytm with 'Virtus Occulta'.
Built around concepts like unrecognised work and lasting merit, this release marks their first EP on SHDW's widely respected label.
From Toledo and Madrid, Ribe & Roll Dann are prominent residents of Laster Madrid and Lanna Club, two of Spain's most important venues. Having become key forces within the national techno scene, they have also left their mark globally thanks to collaborative releases on Klockworks and individual works on various influential labels. Having previously contributed to the label's 'Federation of Rytm IV' compilation, the duo officially debut with an EP on SHDW's Mutual Rytm to kick off March with a deep dive into their expansive sound.
The opening track, ‘Sub Terra’, is a pure club tool: direct, physical, and deeply rooted in the underground, with a crushing low-end. ‘Extra Lumen’ is more contained, though equally built on a firm and powerful rhythm, with a controlled energy that prefers to operate from the shadows. ‘Ars Non Placens’ stays true to the idea that music is not made to please, but to exist on its own terms, combining slouching drums with enveloping dub currents. Next, ‘Meritum Negatum’ crackles with static electric charge and minimalist percussive funk, directly reflecting ignored talent and unrecognised work, before the closing track ‘Virtus Persistens’ brings continuity and a steady pulse instead of an explosive finale, keeping you hooked from start to finish.
Additionally, the package includes three extra digital tracks alongside the vinyl edition. ‘Labor Inauditus’ refers to the hours of technique, production, and booth experience that remain invisible. This is followed by the tense, rubbery rhythms alongside the relentless atmosphere of ‘Silentium Testium’, while ‘Sine Aplausu’ —meaning “without applause”— brings a ghostly, early-morning vibe that you'll never want to end.
