The mighty Rex The Dog returns with his first Kompakt single in three years, "Change This Pain For Ecstasy," a brilliant slow-burn disco track, charged with analogue energy. Pushing his handmade modular setup to its limits, this piece is tense and exciting, minimalist and pulsating, with soaring chords glistening over a classic Moroder-esque arpeggio, while a delirious vocal intones the psychedelic lament of a raver seeking release, begging: “take away my sorrow and this pain.” Deeply emotional, it’s also a masterpiece of tension and release, with soaring peaks of snare rolls and dark, humid valleys where Rex finds himself tied to his patchbay.
