Red Axes are very excited to present the first part of their new project called: Trips, a multi-media initiative combining music, film and traveling the world in search of extraordinary collaborations. Niv Arzi and Dori Sadovnik are on a quest to discover new territories and sounds, record local musicians, indigenous instruments, and present workshops for youth music schools.
In March 2017, the Israeli duo first touched down in Africa and set up camp in both Ethiopia and Ivory Coast, resulting in In Africa, a three-track EP of contemporary body music, featuring musical motifs from both East and West Africa.
The project will always feature a music release, on vinyl and digital, created during the trip, accompanied by a documentary showcasing the entire journey.
The Music:
On A1, Red Axes and the seven-piece Ivorian band Yakomin interweave mechanical drum machine passages with live percussion and recordings of indigenous instruments from the West African coastal region. The dusty Afrofunk-influenced synths of Amuse combine excellently with the festive chanting and rhythms of students from Abidjan’s Insaac Music School. The overdriven analog electronic sounds of Addis Sababa accompany little known wind and string instruments toward a sunny goal, in trademark Red Axes style.
The Film:
A documentary made by Nimrod Von Keren, titled TRIPS #1 - Africa, showcasing the magical moments behind this first of many unconventional, transcontinental collaborative experiences will be revealed soon.
