Ralph Session ft. Juliet Mendoza - Freaknik EP (Incl. LADYMONIX Remix) [Freerange]

Ralph Session is a producer who has left his mark on the house music scene, dropping quality underground house music since 2009. The New Yorker, now based in Barcelona, has amassed well-received releases on some of the most prominent labels out there including Razor n Tape, Local Talk, Nervous, Moulton Music, Large and Exploited, and continues to spearhead his own Half-Assed imprint as a platform for curating the deep cultural sound of his native NYC. For his Freerange debut, he’s teamed up with LA producer and vocalist Juliet Mendoza, who herself has dropped gems for labels such as Planet E, Ocha and Shaboom.

‘Freak’ finds Ralph staying true to his roots once again, with all the characteristic elements of US house present and correct. Muscular beats keep the drive and heft, whilst simple chords and the vibraphone hook add just the right dose of musicality without getting in the way of the groove, which is the most important thing. Juliet Mendoza puts the icing on the cake with her spoken word, enticing you to let loose on the dancefloor.

Taking up remix duties and turning the ‘Freakometer’ all the way up to eleven, is Detroit native Ladymonix. Fresh from releases on her own Frizner Electric imprint, as well as Planet E, Toucan Sounds and Studio Barnhus, she transforms the track into an otherworldly house jam that will hook you with its stripped-back groove. Distorting the vocal and keeping the groove paired back to its essence, Ladymonix has created a club track that will stay in your head long after the lights go up.
