While the presence of integrated thought around music release has long distinguished Max Cooper, it is the notion of performance and entertainment grafted onto his style that truly enables Max to step into new territory.

Motif EP, a collection of his influences and a set of motifs from a lifetime in electronic music, is equipped with purpose and emotional intimacy. Far from being a dark moment of introspection, it is a diverse collection of audio-visual ideas, each playing a particular role in his live shows that cut across all his musical passions combined with the experience of being alive in this moment, immersed in a shared story and experience.

Six impressively contemplative and powerful songs oscillating between Max’s quiet and heartfelt reminiscences and the youthful vestiges of 90’s raves, and an accurate, playful essence of the dance floor spirit, whilst incorporating the sounds of breakbeat, drum and bass and techno.

Comfortingly direct and familiar, fans will recognise characteristic sound motifs from over a decade of Max’s production, performances and DJ sets.

But most distinctively, Cooper seems uninterested in solely capturing the present, and more concerned with investigating the history of his music, and investing in shaping its future.
