Dutch junglists Pastaman & Tommy The Cat join forces for their fifteenth foray into dark-hearted breakbeat territories, on another twin 12” release via the latter’s eponymous imprint, Cat In The Bag. “Strictly Dubplate” works a darkness built on off-kilter, pitch-bent burbles, leaving the sun, deck chairs, and spliffs aside in favor of a full-on assaulted column of stuttering breaks and speaker-bursting patois war cries. For its part, “Killer Sound” flattens the atmosphere a bit, kneading the break-driven rhythmic suspension into a lightness more focused on mood than on the drop, with the weight of a magic roller in full advance.
