Pahua - Habita Remixes (7") [Razor-N-Tape]

Mexican sensation singer/percussionist/producer/DJ Pahua arrives on Razor-N-Tape with a massive 7” remix project, featuring some of the most exciting names in international dance music today.

Originally the singer for beloved Mexican band Sotomayor, Pahua struck out on her own in 2020, developing her singular electronic Latin sound through a series of EPs, culminating in the release of her standout LP Habita on Nacional Records in 2023. With millions of streams, Habita established Pahua as an essential voice in modern alternative folk/pop in Latin America, and now Razor-N-Tape brings her sound to dancefloors across the globe with a varied remix package that honors the essence of the original music, while transforming it in RNT’s signature club-ready style.

The roster of remixers on this project includes both veterans and new recruits from the RNT production stable. Label co-head JKriv turns in a late-night bass-driven mix of the popular ‘Porque Yo,’ Tigerbalm brings their sparkling international disco touch to ‘Pa’lante,’ Prince of Queens digs deep with a housey dub of ‘Calla,’ and London’s Clive From Accounts takes ‘Caña Brava’ into nu-disco territory with a splash of amapiano. Newcomers to the label also deliver impressively, with LA’s Captain Planet and Quebecois producer Poirier showing very different but equally impactful sides to the uptempo ‘Espantapájaros’ — percussive and driving, and stripped-down and hypnotic, respectively. Detroit Latin production legend John Beltran graces the melancholic ‘Flor de Jazmín’ with a samba-influenced rhythm bed and a lush horn arrangement that whisks you away straight to Cafe del Mar, Ibiza. And Mexican producer Belmar rounds out the package with a deep, slow-burn mix of ‘Porque Yo.’

With a remix collection as prolific and strong as this one, RNT opted for an expansive 7” package featuring seven of the remixes on two vinyl discs. The gorgeous record art flips the moonrise eclipse motif from the original Habita album artwork to perfection, with a clever device that reveals a crescent moon as you slide the record out of the sleeve.
