Oscar L / Metodi Hristov - Gravity [Drumcode]

Drumcode veteran Oscar L teams up with Metodi Hristov, a more recent addition to Adam Beyer’s renowned techno label, for their two-track collaborative EP, Gravity. Madrid’s techno and tech-house maestro, Oscar L, maintains a long relationship with both of Beyer’s imprints, Drumcode (album Again, 2023, plus performances at DC events) and Truesoul, including the solo EP Vulture (2022), the collaborative EP with Dosem Aircargo (2023) and Yapper with Max Styler (2024). In addition to Adam Beyer, Oscar has received support from Richie Hawtin, Nicole Moudaber, and Joseph Capriati, and has also released on Knee Deep In Sound, Stereo Productions, We Are The Brave, among others.

Based in Bulgaria, Metodi Hristov brought his distinctive techno sound to Drumcode last year with his two-track debut EP Build To Destroy. Both cuts, the title track and Flatline, were part of his September 2024 Drumcode Radio Studio Mix, recorded live from Sofia. With support from artists like Carl Cox and Enrico Sangiuliano, Metodi’s career is steadily advancing.

Gravity: The title track throws itself into battle with fast, heavy techno rhythms, deep, roaring, reverb-laden hoovers, while a sweet, melodic female vocal, cut and processed, asserts itself against a dystopian dialogue between two sinister machines, accompanied by a dark, distorted, industrial synthesizer. There’s a lot at stake here: dark, powerful, and made for the dancefloor.

Up & Down: Full-on attack from the first nanosecond, with very fast beats, layers of percussion, and a deep male voice intoning the title riff. An insistent synth melody with a “plucked string” effect and reverb competes with a second melodic, high-pitched, sweet voice that brings light to a very dark shadow. “Do you feel it now…?” You’ll definitely feel it.
