A bootleg experiment that got out of control: the BBC Radio 1 A-listed single is the accidental hit everyone is talking about.

And how do you make an “accidental hit”? By accident, of course… The track was born when Fatzo tried to show his father the difference between an edit and a remix: “…I took a song by the band Men I Trust, sped it up, and added a drum beat and violin. After playing it for Oden, they loved it and added their secret ingredients.”

Unlike what their name might suggest, Oden & Fatzo is made up of three people: an underground Parisian collective that fuses the live electronic duo Oden with house DJ Fatzo. In 2020, a bootleg version of “Lauren” was uploaded to the Novaj label's YouTube channel, unleashing an unexpected wave of enthusiasm. That video is close to reaching 4.5 million views. Fascinated, listeners asked for an official release; a year later, Ministry of Sound / B1 Recordings cleared the sample and the track began its ascent on radio and charts.

With its captivating beat and infectious nostalgia, "Lauren" makes up for party nights lost during lockdowns, getting people dancing at home and in the streets, now that concerts, parties, and live sets are returning. As the trio says: “This song was about hope, freedom, and a party vibe at a time when you couldn’t go anywhere. We think it gave everyone who listened to it a small escape, including us.”
