Two years ago, Loudeast Recordings regular and occasional Freerange and Ovum contributor Nacho Marco made his long-awaited Chiwax debut, some 19 years after putting out his first 12” on Dpress Industries. Twenty-four months on, the veteran Spanish producer returns to the popular German imprint with another confident and largely romance-soaked outing. He opens the four-track EP with the nostalgic, piano-rich early 90s house colour of ‘Cherry On Top’, a kind of nod to classic Italo-house sound with added thump, before dropping the tempo slightly with the jazzy, head-nodding, organ-heavy breakbeat house jam that is ‘Tequilla Sunrise’. Elsewhere on the EP, ‘Black Velvet’ connects Italo-dance, thrusting trance and floor-ready 90s synth-pop, while ‘Twinkle’ is a lighter, airier slice of piano-driven deep house.
