When recording Moderat’s self-titled album, the three members started by renting space at Berlin's legendary Hansa Studios (where David Bowie recorded Heroes) in order to record the album in analog format, using the studio's vintage tube technology and an old 1972 EMI console, specially restored for Moderat.

American software designer Joshua Kit Clayton was hired to program a sophisticated reverb algorithm specifically for the recording process of this album.
