Mike Huckaby - The Tresor EP [Tresor]

Following the club and label’s 20th anniversary in 2011, Tresor immortalized its two decades of existence with an exclusive mix by one of its respected Detroit affiliates, Mike Huckaby. On that mix, Mike Huckaby included an exclusive production of his own, the first to be released on Tresor Records.

Today, Tresor is proud to announce the re-release of “The Tresor Track” on vinyl, constituting a massive cut on the A-side at 45 RPM. This title is on its way to standing alongside the label’s most important classics, a genuine anthem for Berlin’s techno institution.

On the B-side, Mike Huckaby takes a walk through the Tresor building, going down the stairs, exploring the darkest and most twisted corners of the room with “Basement Trax”, going back to “The Upstairs Lounge” and surprising his audience with some original rhythmic patterns. “The Tresor EP” is a statement, a seal manifesting a fruitful and lasting collaboration between Mike Huckaby and Tresor.

“I attempt to create a vibe, feeling, or idea that can generate vicarious expression. Often, this is derived from many of my personal club experiences. I have a permanent picture in my mind of the vibe that I recall at the Music Institute in Detroit, or at Shelter in NYC. So I draw from that often. As for House Music, it is usually based on strong chord progressions and very colorful, expressive sounds. For Techno, it can be a mix of both, or purely abrasive and dancefloor-oriented. Music is reciprocal. I have coined or formulated a term called “the reciprocal relationship” in music. The reciprocal relationship in music demonstrates that tones excite chords, and chords excite tones. Here is an example to elaborate more on that: A chord can invoke a specific feeling in the listener. But the strength or degree that a feeling is invoked in the listener has a lot to do with the notes or chord progression that are played over a specific tone or patch.” Mike Huckaby, 2010.
