Renaissance Records' undeniable flagship, a Remix Collection, is always an event when it drops; so, as festival season kicks off and we enter summer, what musical news could be better?

And it really is news. In line with the Renaissance Remix Collection’s philosophy of inviting the biggest and best to reinterpret undeniable Renaissance classics, which to date has included Solomun, Tale Of Us, Adam Beyer, Nicole Moudaber, Patrice Bäumel, and Yotto, the label was thrilled to secure the services of Gorgon City to deliver their take on one of the earliest, most immediate classics – Mephisto’s “State Of Mind”.

Released in 1992, "State Of Mind (Quiet Mix)" featured heavily during Renaissance’s early formative years at its legendary Venue 44 home in Mansfield. Its classic status was further cemented 18 months later when Sasha and John Digweed featured it on the "Mix Collection Vol.1" and introduced it to the wider general public. It was, and remains, an Italian house classic that stands out for its witty piano riff, undulating female vocals, and THAT spoken word discourse – "music with more muscle."

Gorgon City’s Renaissance Remix wastes no time with its update. Following the style and sound Kye and Matt laid down with "Somebody to Love" and "Ahora Todo Va," the track is a full-throttle deep monster that injects bass, an unforgettable acid passage, and deep horns to dramatic effect. "We’ve been fans of the Remix Collection, so it was a no-brainer to take on 'State Of Mind,'" they confirm, "the iconic parts in the song are legendary. We had a lot of fun weaving them into a tougher, contemporary sound."
